With its low rating on IMDb and some poor reviews I read, I wasn't expecting much from this ghost/horror flick. However, I found it to be better than I anticipated. It's presented well, and although it probably won't please the die-hard horror fans, it had just enough chills and surprises for me.
Pay the Ghost offers the best of both Cage worlds, giving the actor a finely etched character to play as well as an abstract, phantasmagorical cinematic canvas for him to explore.

I thought Rage was considerably better than Ghost. It contains interesting themes: How money is not worth a guilty conscience and how past sins can come back to visit one in the most unexpected ways. Rating the movies individually, I would give Pay The Ghost 3 or 3-and-a-half stars, and Rage 4 or 4-and-a-half stars.

Pay the Ghost is a short, creepy horror story about a couple struggling to get their kidnapped daughter back who was taken on Halloween. At 25 pages it is a very quick and enjoyable read. I was intrigued by the deterioration of Kate and would have liked a longer story detailing what was happening to her.
Instead, “Pay the Ghost” does nothing that we haven’t seen done more entertainingly and incisively in other films. It literally has two characters at the 70-minute mark explain the entire narrative—where Charlie is, how to save him, why he was taken, etc.—in back-to-back conversations.
While buying a cone for Charlie, the boy asks whether they can pay the ghost and vanishes. Mike and Kristen seek out the boy and he presses NYPD Detective Jordan to find his son. One year later, Mike researches and finds that children that disappear on Halloween are never found by the police.
